- A cool way to give your Floppies, Hard Drives or Folders two line names!
-
- For users of System 7 only!
-
- First make sure that included with this Read Me doc is a floating text box that
- looks something like this:
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- If it doesn't look EXACTLY like the above example then either RESTART your
- Mac or REBUILD THE DESKTOP!
-
- This 'Invisible Folder' is just that. All I did was paste an icon into it, opened
- the icon with ResEdit and removed the icon and the mask. You can Duplicate
- this folder as much as you want, and to move it just click-drag the name.
-
- Now comes the fun part!
-
- Put a floppy in your drive. Next copy the 'Invisible Folder' onto the disk. Now
- if you don't know this already, whenever you put a file or folder from the disk on
- the desktop and eject the disk, then put the disk back in, the file or folder will
- be right where you left it. Now carefully pull the copy of 'Invisible Folder' from
- the disk to the desktop. Holding command, click-drag the 'Invisible Folder' to the
- bottom of the first name of the disk. Pressing command overrides the icon's
- tendency to snap-to grid which allows the 'Invisible Folder' name to sit just
- below the original disk name (see example).
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- Congrats, you did it! Now just rename the 'Invisible Folder' to something you
- want the second line to say (see example).
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- Now wherever the disk goes the second line will always go. You can also do this
- with folders on your desktop or your Hard Drive. Just make sure that if it is a
- folder and you move it somewhere, that you click drag around both lines of text
- so they will both move together (also use the command key). And don't forget,
- you MUST copy the 'Invisible Folder' to the disk FIRST before you move it to the
- desktop, otherwise you'll have a mysterious floating text block with no home.
-
- But why only limit two line names you ask? Well you don't have to, in fact I
- have several disks (or folders) with 5 or more line names and I may put bullets
- in front of some lines indicating notes for certain disks. There are numerous
- possibilities and you may come up with even more!
